Planning & Zoning

The Planning & Zoning Commission was established in 2009 and is charged with the duty and invested with the authority to:

  • Make recommendations to the city council relating to the creation, implementation and amendment of zoning regulations and districts.
  • Advise the city council relating to the amendment of these zoning regulations and districts as the Commission may deem beneficial and in the best interests of the city.
  • Advise the City Council with respect to formulating a plan to regulate the location of trades and industries and location of buildings designed for specific uses, the height and bulk of buildings hereafter erected, and division of the city into zones of such number, shape and area as may be deemed best to carry out the goals of the Comprehensive Plan.

The Board of Adjustment was established by the Planning & Zoning Ordinance in 2018 and their duties include:

  • Hearing and deciding appeals where it is alleged there is error of law in any order, requirement, decision or determination made by the City Building Official.
  • Hearing and deciding special exceptions to the terms of the Planning & Zoning ordinance, including applications for Specific Use Permits, variances to certain requirements, rulings on requested zoning changes.
